Terry Pratchett!!!
Sep. 29th, 2006 12:19 amI've come back from a Q&A and signing by Terry Pratchett to celebrate his new book called Wintersmith. It's the third in his Discworld miniseries 'The Wee Free Men" for younger readers about the young witch Tiffany Aching.
During the interview and audience questions, Terry spoke about his eccentric and eclectic taste in books, his method of writing, how much of his personality is in his characters and various other questions too many to mention.
Now a very strange thing happened while I was at the signing. As I mentioned previously, I had two spare tickets, so being the marvelous big brother that I am, I invited my sister and one of her college friends, and as we were talking, I realised that I was having a talk about fandom.
TV shows and books and comics were being discussed, and it struck me that I had more in common with my sister and her friend then I do with my friends from work. They're great people, mind, but are very much 'geezers'. Meaning football, girls, football, beer, football, action and horror movies, and surprise, surprise, football. Having lived next door to a football stadium since the age of six, I'm not a fan, at all.
I've gotta get more friends.
