I really like listening to podcasts and one of my favourite ones is a scifi one called Galactic Watercooler, they used to be solely about Battlestar Galactica, but since it ended they've expanded into scif and fantasy in general. Their current topic of discussion is the Prime Directive from star trek and they seem to be quite against it.
After listening at work, I spent the rest of the arfernoon and my walk home thinking through my response to them in defense of the Prime Directive, I talked about the cultural impact of interefering with a pre-warp civilisation as well as the economic and political implications that a vastly superior space faring group like the Federation could have on a world that's never had first contact, all the while showing paralells to our own world's history and current events.
I'd be really interested in you, my readers interpretation of the Prime Directive and whether or not your in favour of it, and what other geeky or nerdy subjects you've put 'serious' effort into thinking about.
