First off, glad to see you're all still here and that Harold Camping did exactly what I thought he would and say that it was a "spiritual rapture" where Jesus appeared to him. Funny that. And the Minnesotan formerly known as Robert Zimmerman is 70 years old. Wow.

Now for the bragging/geeking out part of this post, the British Library is doing a science fiction exhibit at the moment and as part of the exhibit they're doing a series of discussions collectively called "The Future:Science and Society."

Tonight's panel was titled Who Owns the story of the Future? and was chaired by John Turney with William Gibson, Cory Doctorow, Diane Coyle, and a new hero of mine Mark Stevenson.who wrote an absolutely amazing book called An Optimist's Guide to the Future which I advise you all to at the very least click on his website and check out his GoogleAuthors talk.

The themes of the night were quite eclectic, but they mainly talked about the problem with narratives in today's science fiction, and how there aren't any more big monumental ideas dominating the entire genre and one member of the audience made a really cool suggestion that maybe the past ten years we've been rendering as in CGI, which kicked off another load of discussion. I'm really, really, glad I went.
